Flash Gordon is an American football player who along with Dale Arden are returning to New York City after a long vacation, until the plane they are passengers on crashes into the laboratory of Russian scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov. Both Flash and Dale become unwilling passengers on-board Zarkov's rocketship as Zarkov sets a course for the planet Mongo. Arriving on Mongo, Flash and his companions find the planet is under the rulership of the evil Emperor Ming the Merciless and Ming is attacking Earth with natural disasters as he bids to destroy Earth. Realizing that Earth and the human race is in mortal danger, Flash decides to unite the kingdoms of Mongo and combine the forces of rivals Prince Barin and Prince Vultan to rescue Dale, who is to become Ming's wife and defeat Ming and save Earth from annihilation. A football player and his friends travel to the planet Mongo and find themselves fighting the tyranny of Ming the Merciless to save Earth. The Emperor Ming (Max von Sydow) is attacking the Earth. Only former NASA scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) seems to have foreseen it. He intends to launch himself in his rocket as a 'counter-attack'. NY Jets star quarterback Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) is taking a commuter flight. He survives the plane crash along with fellow passenger Dale Arden (Melody Anderson). Zarkov tricks the duo into his rocket and launches them into space. They are taken prisoner to find Ming's tyrannical rule over the various kingdoms. Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton) leads the kingdom of Arboria. Hawkman Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed) runs Sky City. Ming's daughter Princess Aura (Ornella Muti) is fascinated with Flash. Ming takes Dale as his concubine.

This is brilliantly colorful and deliciously campy. The Queen soundtrack is second to none. The acting is big but it fits the style. Parts of it goes a bit too slowly. Some scenes are very static. Even the actors move slowly as an old-fashion way to denote drama. Sometimes it needs more energy to maintain the tension. This is an unique vision and a fun watch if you don't take it seriously. When I was about 5 years old this was the best film ever made. While I now disagree with the man I once was, I nonetheless find it difficult to completely dismiss my affection for this three-legged donkey of a movie. After all, stupidity and an eagerness to please are loveable features in a puppy, so why not a movie?

What's wrong with this movie? Sorry, there's a word limit. What's right with it? Nothing really springs to mind.

I'm being harsh. Max Von Sydow is clearly having a great time pretending to be in charge of the universe (and I dare to suggest his Ming might be considered definitive); Peter Wyngarde is likewise having fun as Klytus, a sort of Darth Vader-as-voiced-by-George Sanders, and Brian Blessed gives perhaps the deepest and most profound exploration you will ever see of the character 'Big Loud Man With Beard'.

Sam J. Jones looks kind of bewildered. And who indeed can blame him? There are still parts of this film which stand up today - the space rockets are still hilarious, the music still wonderfully ludicrous, and all the colours still optic nerve-fryingly scarlet. Topol is nuts (presumably he finally fell off that roof and landed on his head… well it's difficult to balance AND play a musical instrument I expect). Ornella Muti is… erm, quite striking.

The only real penguins in the nunnery are Timothy Dalton as Robin Hood, and Melody Anderson as Dale Arden, who's just too damn wet. Then again, I have a theory that big macho Flash has his masculinity so undermined by the aggressive women he encounters on Mongo that he only feels unthreatened in the company of a flaccid romantic foil like Dale (with whom he exchanges perhaps three conversations before proposing marriage). Frankly, I suspect that whole Flash/Dale thing is an attempt by Flash to cover up his real sexuality. Sadly we never got a sequel so we didn't find out. Alas.

Final Thought: If Barbarella and Flash Gordon got married, would their kid have been called Fifth Element? The frantic pleasures of this film add up to what used to be considered good fun; good Saturday morning fun; good Saturday morning fun to eat pancakes and pour maple syrup by; good fun that, once the day begins, is good fun soon forgotten. It's a pity Flash Gordon can't be screened at the breakfast table. [6 Dec 1980, p.E7] well Let's put it this way: you can walk, yet you still travel by car, don't you?

As much as I like the previous answer, there was a small blurb explaining the rocket cycles in a pre-production note. Something about using them as emergency transportation for injured hawk-people who couldn't fly. a5c7b9f00b V full movie in hindi free download hd 1080pRogue One: A Star Wars Story sub downloadBand of Brothers full movie in hindi free download mp4Episode 2.16 hd mp4 downloadWest Side Swordy full movie download in hindiConspiracy Theory movie in hindi free downloadA Shaolin Treasure full movie 720p downloadDeath Hunt in hindi downloadBride of Pretorius full movie in hindi 720p downloadRising Sun movie free download in hindi
